Continuing Electronic Theatre’s discussion with British publisher Rising Star Games regarding their autumn/winter 2011 line-up, Yen Hau, Product Manager, took the time to answer some important questions concerning the surprise release of Dodonpachi Resurrection, coming to Xbox 360 exclusively this November. Following the success of the Deathsmiles Deluxe Edition earlier this year, fans of CAVE’s modern shoot-‘em-up titles will surely be keen to discover what assets are included in the forthcoming retail package of Dodonpachi Resurrection, and thankfully Rising Star Games aren’t about to disappoint.
Below follows a brief Question and Answer (Q&A) session with Hau, specifically discussing the European release of Dodonpachi Resurrection. Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on Dodonpachi Resurrection, and other forthcoming titles from Rising Star Games.
Electronic Theatre: As the fifth title in the Donpachi series, what made you decide to bring Dodonpachi Resurrection to European shores? Why not start at the beginning?
Yen Hau (YH): As DodonPachi Resurrection is the first of the series to be released on the Xbox 360, it makes sense to start with the version designed for the current-generation of consoles. Previous iterations in the series were released on older platforms and unavailable for release.
Electronic Theatre: CAVE’s shoot-‘em-up titles have established a very respectful audience over the years, both ardent and patient. How does the experience of working with this fanbase differ from working with those previously unaware of the likes of Dodonpachi Resurrection and Deathsmiles?
YH: Working with CAVE’s passionate fans makes life a whole lot easier, if you handle the release correctly! We are doing our best to give them what they want and it is clearly evident that, with an open dialogue, they can see the efforts we are making on their behalf. It is a community like no other and we grateful for the comments, both good and bad. It is a fluid dialogue which we have not experienced with any other community before and has greatly helped to establish our reputation within this circle.
Electronic Theatre: Can you offer some details on what will be seen in the PAL release of Dodonpachi Resurrection? Will we see the same amount of content and revisions made available in Deathsmiles earlier this year?
YH: We will be releasing the final version of Dodonpachi Resurrection in one Deluxe package. This includes the final Version 1.5 and both Arrange modes which were included in the Japanese release. The Black Label Arrange mode and updated Version 1.51 will be available as [downloadable content] over Xbox LIVE. We will also include the official soundtrack in the pack, just as we did with Deathsmiles.
Electronic Theatre: After the success of Deathsmiles many may suspect that Dodonpachi Resurrection was a ‘done deal’ from day one. Is Rising Star Games’ relationship with CAVE likely to offer more collaborative efforts for the UK audience?
YH: We are having a blast working with CAVE and would certainly love to continue our relationship with them.
Electronic Theatre would like to thank Yen Hau and Rising Star Games for their time and work on the preparation of this article.
