Hi again,
been really busy lately (as you can imagine), but stopping by to answer your questions:
plasticXO: I didn't make a vertical shmup with large borders left/right because I thought I would have to draw smaller main objects to fit naturally within the viewing area (I wanted to show more detail in the characters). Plus, there is so much screen wasted on the large borders on a lot of xbox shmups to preserve the vertical aspect ratio. I do agree with you, I like the standard vertical shmup screen layouts better, but most people who play xbox cannot (or will not) turn their screen on it's side! :) Maybe my next shmup game will have the left/right borders? hehe
The game framerate is 60fps on PC and Xbox 360, so maybe the youtube video was not as good quality? I apologize, I am not a very good video editor :)
Yes, you are correct, the background for level 1 is very repetitive. I was using that background image to test how big the background graphics I could use for each level. The next levels will have more varied graphics, so as to not be so repetitive. i have realized it is a lot of work to do these graphics, though!
Good observation on the bees/Dodonpachi ! I didn't do this intentionally, maybe it was subliminal? haha. Also, yes, there is a crazy story behind the world in the game, it's not meant to be serious at all, but it does involve zombies!
Sined: zombie cats! haha, the main hero (pilot) of the game is a DOG! His name is "Snops". I am going to do the character artwork/cutscenes soon, in anime style!
ZKU119: Yes, you are correct. I am trying to put in more complicated patterns in for all the enemies, but it is a lot of work. It is a difficult task to balance difficulty and enjoyment for the player, but I will try my best!
Just a reminder for anyone who is a member of the Microsoft App Hub Creator's Club: Snops Attack! (level 1) is available for play test right
now, until 11/30!
Click here if you are a member and wish to test :)
