Ce doit être toi. :')

(Non sérieux, Dragon Saber mais surtout Dragon Spirit sont des bombes atomiques -Dragons vs Spaceships (ou, du moins, ce qu'en montre la vidéo plus haut) ressemble davantage à un gros prout (qui pue)).

Hello everyone!

I apologize, I have been really busy this past week so I haven't been able to stop by until now. Sorry, I don't speak french :)

I posted a new video up yesterday which shows some of the level 1 Boss:http://www.youtube.com/user/SnopsDesign

The game should be up for play test on Xbox Creator's Club this week (if any of you have accounts and want to test). I plan on finishing the next month or two then release sometime in January (if possible).

If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks for your interest!

Hi Mike, thanks to join the forum pouceair

Just some questions in my side : How many levels ? Online scoring ? co-op mode ? Idea about price ? Snops Attack is your first game development ? Why a shmup - Because you are shmups fan ?

Is Florida a nice place to develop ? (/)

Is Snops Attack region locked ? :D (it's a joke)

Thanks !
I am back ! :D

Hello All,

no problem, ZKU119, I will get you a review token when the game gets released! :)

Sined, here are some answers for your questions:

1. For this release, I would like to have 5 main levels (with 5 bosses), but am considering putting in a "bonus" or non-boss level in between a few of the levels (I haven't decided yet). The reason for only 5 levels, is that I am the only person working on the game and it is very time consuming to do all the art/animation/programming/music all by myself... So if I do more levels now, it may not released for a long, long time! haha. I already have the levels and bosses sketched out and currently working on that.

2. I am going to try to implement some sort of standard online indie Xbox live scoring method. There are several freely available from other XBLIG developers. I haven't decided which to use yet. If you have any suggestions on which most people prefer, let me know.

3. I would like to have co-op, but that may have to wait for a later game :(

4. The price will most likely be 240 MS points, due to the fact that Microsoft will not let a developer charge less for a game that is 50 meg+ in size (and the finished game will most likely be over 50 meg). I do plan on releasing a 80 MS point version later, which will not be the full game (story/campaign), but a stand-alone "special" mode.

5. This is my first game development since I was a child. I programed my first game on an Atari 600XL (a long time ago!). I haven't programmed a game since, so basically this is my first "real" game for over 30 years! I am not real good at math, so I am afraid for this first game I won't have too many visually pretty bullet patterns, but I promise to try to make the game challenging anyway!

6. YES! I am not a very good shmup player, but I love the genre. I grew up on games like Tatsujin (Truxton), shooters from Technosoft, Capcom, Toaplan, IREM etc. I wanted my first game to be a shooter, since it is always easier to work on a game you like. I also love the detailed art from NEO-GEO/SNK games, like Metal Slug. This is very time consuming to put into a game, but I am trying my best to work towards giving the player a similar feeling.

7. Florida is beautiful! We have nice weather and nice beaches. Perfect for video game development and fishing!

8. I hope Microsoft will have it available to the widest audience, this will help me justify to my wife the last 8 months working on the game..! haha

I am working on this game on my free time (I have a regular web development job) and even though I am a newbie to game development, I will be happy to answer any other questions you may have. Thank you for your time!

Thank you for all that information:)

For the patterns not defined it could be a critic. Some Developers boost the difficulty which is rather annoying since no particular patterns it is sometimes hard to avoid such all.

I wait and hope that this shmup make me have a good time (and I can be tough even with XBLIG: http://forum.shmupemall.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1044)

240 MSP : good price pouceair

Thanks for answers Mike pouceair

About online scoreboards I only know 'Pear to Pear' as Magiko Gaming explained there -> http://magikogaming.wordpress.com/2011/ ... oreboards/ Not so bad (better than nothing) but need to play at the same time to exchange scores...

Seems you don't like cats... :D Maybe also dogs for the 2nd level ! HiHi

Don't hesitate to inform us about all around the game, new trailer..., and new beaches LoL

Very good job for a newbie ! ;-)

This looks promising, though I am not a huge fan of 16/9 yoko vertical shmups...

Nice colors, original enemies (what kind of crazy world is this ? Is there any story behind ?), but the animation could be a little smoother (maybe this is because of the video recording) and the background is really repetitive.

Are the skull bees swarms a tribute to Dodonpachi ?

I will definitively be testing that.

Hi again,

been really busy lately (as you can imagine), but stopping by to answer your questions:

plasticXO: I didn't make a vertical shmup with large borders left/right because I thought I would have to draw smaller main objects to fit naturally within the viewing area (I wanted to show more detail in the characters). Plus, there is so much screen wasted on the large borders on a lot of xbox shmups to preserve the vertical aspect ratio. I do agree with you, I like the standard vertical shmup screen layouts better, but most people who play xbox cannot (or will not) turn their screen on it's side! :) Maybe my next shmup game will have the left/right borders? hehe

The game framerate is 60fps on PC and Xbox 360, so maybe the youtube video was not as good quality? I apologize, I am not a very good video editor :)

Yes, you are correct, the background for level 1 is very repetitive. I was using that background image to test how big the background graphics I could use for each level. The next levels will have more varied graphics, so as to not be so repetitive. i have realized it is a lot of work to do these graphics, though!

Good observation on the bees/Dodonpachi ! I didn't do this intentionally, maybe it was subliminal? haha. Also, yes, there is a crazy story behind the world in the game, it's not meant to be serious at all, but it does involve zombies!

Sined: zombie cats! haha, the main hero (pilot) of the game is a DOG! His name is "Snops". I am going to do the character artwork/cutscenes soon, in anime style!

ZKU119: Yes, you are correct. I am trying to put in more complicated patterns in for all the enemies, but it is a lot of work. It is a difficult task to balance difficulty and enjoyment for the player, but I will try my best!

Just a reminder for anyone who is a member of the Microsoft App Hub Creator's Club: Snops Attack! (level 1) is available for play test right now, until 11/30! Click here if you are a member and wish to test :)
